Beyond a Picnic Spot: Vasa Park, a Hub of Community and Culture

While Vasa Park offers our members a lovely backdrop for picnics and day camps, its essence lies in being a vibrant community and culture hub. We strive to foster an authentic connection to our Scandinavian heritage and create lasting memories for all who enter our gates.

Vasa Park is more than just a place for our members to gather. It’s a stage for our rich traditions to come alive. Each year, we host three major events that celebrate the heart of Swedish culture:

· Spring Picnic and Car Show: Imagine a sun-drenched day filled with laughter, swimming, and a feast of Swedish culinary delights. Marvel at Swedish heritage cars and witness a captivating Viking reenactment – a glimpse into our exciting heritage.

· Midsummer Celebration: As the sun dips below the horizon, we celebrate the year’s longest day. This joyous occasion, a traditional Scandinavian celebration of life and love,

is a testament to preserving our customs, ensuring they bloom for future generations. Welcome our Midsummer Queen, a Los Angeles tradition since 1901 !

· Scandinavian Autumn Fest: Immerse yourself in a whirlwind of sights, sounds, and flavors. Browse the Hostmarknad-Fall Market, be captivated by Scandinavian musicians and folk dancers, and cheer on contestants in the legendary Swedish Meatball Contest. And, of course, prepare to be transported to Viking times with a thrilling reenactment.

Beyond grand celebrations, Vasa Park fosters a sense of belonging through unique youth experiences:

· Viking Village: Young minds embark on a week-long adventure where Swedish language lessons, culinary delights, and a special field trip ignite their imagination and connect them to their roots.

· Youth Counselor Sponsorship: We believe in nurturing the next generation. That’s why we sponsor our Youth Counselors to attend a Swedish Language Camp in Sweden, deepening their connection to our heritage and equipping them to inspire others.

Vasa Park is a testament to the power of community. It’s a place where families bond over shared traditions, laughter echoes through the pines, and memories are woven into the very fabric of our park.
